Living In Gratitude: Be Satisfied and Grateful
Being satisfied and grateful with what we already have is a magical golden key to being alive in a full, unrestricted, and inspired way. ~Pema Chodron
A few weeks ago, I hurt my elbow and had it in a temporary cast and wrapped from above my elbow to my wrist. Although I wasn’t in pain, I was restricted in my movements and generally felt very cumbersome. Suddenly, I was made acutely aware of how luxurious it is to be able to bend or straighten one’s arm, scratch an itch, reach above my head, and lie on my side. This incident made me appreciate the function of my healthy arm and elbow and all they do to make my life easier.
Appreciating what we have instead of always wishing for more, or for things to be different than they are, provides us with the key to a life of abundance. Take time to be in the moment, to pause and look around you. Revel in and be grateful for your small accomplishments as well as your big. Consider all the things and people that help make our lives and the world what it is. Often, we are so busy looking ahead or hoping for something more that we overlook all that we have. Take hold of that magical key and live a life of satisfaction, happiness and gratitude.
One way to get into this gratitude habit is to spend a few minutes at the start or end of every day and jot down what you appreciate.
Ask yourself:
What am I grateful for today, in this moment?
- A beautiful sunrise
- Waking up each morning
- Warm bear hugs
- Modern technology: smart phones, computers, etc.
- An elbow that bends and straightens!
May you have a day filled with gratitude and good things.
