Keeping a Gratitude Journal is Powerful Stuff
Keeping a gratitude journal can be powerful stuff but like so many things in life, it is so easy to find a reason not do it.
What are your reasons? Are you too busy? Do you have “writer’s block”? Not sure where to begin? Can’t figure out what to be grateful for?
What usually stops us from doing these types of exercises is often caused by the fact that we just can’t see how this will help us. Keeping a gratitude journal won’t help pay your power bill or put food on the table but what it WILL do is help to shift your focus away from scarcity and worry and instead help to create a focus on gratefulness. Hopefully after keeping a journal for awhile, you’ll begin to see the large amount of abundance that you already have in your life.
When you are focused on the lack of anything, that lack is ALL that you can think about. You fall into an anxiety-producing depression with a “why bother?” mindset. Any idea that is presented to you will be dismissed as “too difficult,” “not doable,” “impossible to accomplish.”
Think about that for a moment. Isn’t the above statement true? How often have you been given advice on how to do something about your situation and you just couldn’t get your mind to consider it seriously because of your overall attitude?
By keeping a daily gratitude journal and listing all the things in your life, big and small that you truly appreciate, you shift your perspective from what you don’t have to what you do.
Suddenly new possibilities begin to present themselves. Ideas start to form and from there you can take action. And inspired action leads to amazing results.
As you write, be sure to take time to feel emotionally grateful for each thing before you list it. Visualize the image in your mind and get in touch with your own feelings concerning the subject for 15 to 30 seconds.
Give it a try for one month. That’s only 30 days. You can do anything for 30 days, especially when you will soon see for yourself how powerful a gratitude list can be.
