Living In Gratitude: It Is Impossible To Be Grateful And Depressed
It is impossible to be grateful and depressed simultaneously.
And when we are feeling down, one of the quickest ways to boost our spirits is to reflect on what we have to be grateful for. Even when our days are darkest, there is always something we can appreciate. Really.
(Clinical depression should be treated with a professional.)
Maybe what we can find to be grateful for today is something as small or seemingly insignificant as your morning cup of coffee or tea, the pillow beneath your head each night, or the fact that the vivid blue sky is filled with puffy clouds.
But once we get into that habit of noticing and appreciating, we have opened the door to gratitude, if even just ever so slightly.
Take time to consciously reflect on what you appreciate today. Maybe even make note of them in a notebook or journal. Soon enough we will have a pretty impressive list to turn to when we’re feeling down.
Today I am grateful for:
- Friends, family and those who give me love and support
- A roof above my head
- My favorite meal
- My favorite song, book or movie
- Memories of a wonderful vacation
